Abu Mazen's Great White Hope The Badr Brigade

I've discussed the Badr Brigade and how 'moderate' 'Palestinian President' Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen wants to use it for 're-enforcements' on a couple of occasions. But after hearing a couple of times how the government had approved Badr's deployment (IDF disapproval notwithstanding), I was wondering where they were already. Now, I know.

It seems that the Badr Brigade is more like F-Troop than it is like a fighting force.

According to this article in Maariv (link in Hebrew), the reason that the Badr Brigade has not been deployed to Gaza is that it has no funds to pay the troops, no supplies and no training. For the last two weeks, senior American and British officers have been spending time with the Badr Brigade at its Zarka (Jordan) base trying to whip them into shape. But there's a long way to go. At least six months if the financial and logistical problems are solved.

So much for that idea....
